Project assumes renovation of a significant share of the district heating distribution network, characterized by significant water and energy losses. In 2017 total heated surface was 5,6 million sqm and delivered energy was 1,3 TWh. Energy loses were close to 15% and water loses close to 40%. Project assumes revitalization of 68 km of the network by the mid of 2023. Project brings added value to achievement of national and EU targets related to energy efficiency and GHG reduction as it foresees total energy savings of 0,201798PJ and significant decrease of the water losses.

This guide is meant to inspire the owners/operators of diverse types, sizes and development-stages of DHSs to implement similar measures to the ones developed during the KeepWarm project in their own communities. It also aims to stimulate public authorities, policy-makers, investors and other stakeholders to streamline and prioritise DH retrofits by establishing those policies, regulations, funding schemes, etc. needed to facilitate and replicate DH modernisation all across Europe.

In "Learning Centre" you can find resources of interest for district heating operators/owners sorted according to the eight larger thematic areas. Some of these resources were used by project partners during training workshops with district heating operators and other relevant actors in their countries. As member of the project consortium Socialres, Tractebel’s contribution consists in developing a pilot peer-to-peer trading platform and a roadmap for legislative actions needed to enable in the reality the concept of energy trading between smaller market actors, being consumers, producers, prosumers, energy communities and cooperatives or aggregators.
